5 Chiropractic Tips for Truck Drivers

By Brandi Goodman

As a truck driver, you may find yourself in your vehicle for hours on end. All of this time spent sitting can do damage to your back if you don't exercise caution. With some chiropractic tips in mind, you can continue your truck driving without experiencing the severe pain you might otherwise feel.

Use Lumbar Support

If your trucking company allows, bring a lumbar support cushion in your vehicle with you. Your lower back can start to ache quickly if you don't place anything behind it for support. Be sure you're also sitting up straight and using correct posture so unnecessary stress isn't placed on any part of your body.

Get Adequate Sleep

The sleep you get each night can have a significant impact on how your body handles activities each day. You want to be sure you're getting adequate sleep so your body is well-rested, recovered, and able to take on your necessary tasks, such as driving. Set a sleep routine if you need so you can drift off easier and give your body the rest it requires.

Stretch When You Can

It can be hard to stretch when you're driving, but shaking your legs a bit, moving them up and down, and stretching any way you can may be of help. It's also important to stretch once you get out of your vehicle. Stand on your toes. Reach toward the sky. Bend and touch your feet. Stretch your entire body out so it doesn't feel so stiff and tense.

Drink Lots of Water

Your joints will also remain flexible if you're keeping them hydrated. Drink lots of water throughout the day so your body can maintain its pliability. It will reduce your chance for pain and even injury. Avoid sugary drinks and lots of caffeine that can enhance inflammation and aches.

See a Chiropractor

Every truck driver should see a chiropractor regularly. You'll be able to get an adjustment and have any joint restrictions or subluxations corrected so you can drive without worry. Pain can set in quickly if you're sitting for hours and not able to stretch or move much. Regular visits to the chiropractor can keep your bones and joints as limber as possible to handle the strain and recover easier.

The Joint Chiropractic offers extended hours into the evening and even on weekends to provide care for those who need it on their own time. Stop in when you can for a consultation and see how a chiropractor can help you.
