Fashion: It Can Cause Back Pain
By Virginia Laird
It is highly possible that a person’s love for all things fashionable can cause pain. Those who fall in the “fashionista” category typically do not mind a little pain in exchange for beautiful shoes, accessories, etc. Keeping up the trendy style and making a few changes can help manage back pain. Along with routine visits to the chiropractor for spinal adjustments, chiropractors recommend taking a long, hard look in the closet when trying to decide why back pain exists.
Heels are Hard on the Back
Love your heels? Me too! However, heels are one of the more painful shoes that exist. Not only can they cause pain on the feet, they can also be the culprit of back pain. Here’s the deal. Heels cause an unnatural movement in stride when walking. This requires the body to make adjustments, which typically means shifting the weight awkwardly, creating spinal movement. All this combined causes stress on the spine, which is painful. It is best to opt for a flat or low heel when having to be on your feet all day.
Purses Can Get Heavy
I am not a small purse kind of gal. I love a good satchel. Unfortunately, the bigger the purse, the more likely it will be heavy in a matter of hours. Women tend to pack as much in one bag (or purse) as it can hold. Think about it: What is in your purse that you really do not need? My purse generally has a diaper or two, wipes, a (full) water bottle, and snacks, among all the necessities. This gets heavy in a hurry. Chiropractors recommend keeping the purse light, and carrying a smaller purse so the weight cannot pile up. Do yourself a favor and find a cute, trendy cross-body bag or small purse. Your back will thank you.
Rather than thinking there are no answers to your back pain that include being stylish, think of this as an open invitation to find the answer while shopping! The best of both worlds, right?! Keep in mind that some of the damage that has already been done needs to be addressed. This can be done with routine visits to your chiropractor. In no time at all you just may find that you love the small changes to your wardrobe and your lifestyle.
