Following Chiropractic Advice for Working Outdoors

By Brandi Swieter

Working outdoors is common for many people. Construction workers, landscapers, farmers, park rangers, and more spend their time outside handling tough tasks. Many overexert themselves, leading to back pain and problems. When working outdoors, employees need to be sure to follow chiropractic advice so they can avoid this pain and handle the job with ease instead of struggling.

Wear Supportive Shoes

No outdoor employee should be seen wearing sandals or flats. Even those just handling their own yard work require supportive shoes that will keep the body supported and free from pain. This will prevent strain on the back and offer some assistance when having to tackle heavy duties.

Use the Strap for Equipment

Much of the equipment needed for outdoor work is heavy and hard to lift. If it comes with a support strap that is meant to be worn over the shoulder, then workers need to be sure this strap is on and secured. It helps to keep the body balanced and a person’s center of gravity on point instead of off-kilter. Switching sides often will also help so one side of the body does not become overworked and pained.

Stretch Before, During, and After Your Shift

Stretching is extremely important for everyone, but especially for those who work outside performing heavy duty tasks. Some simple stretches before, during, and after a shift will help to keep pain away as these tasks are performed. It’s vital to stretch the lower body, as well as the arms and shoulders because these are the areas that get targeted the most during work.

Stay Hydrated

Especially while working in the heat, people need to stay hydrated as much as possible. Drinking plenty of water will help to keep the muscles and joints well hydrated and working as well as they should. Workers should keep a bottle of water with them at all times so they can drink when they need to and do not get dehydrated.

Following chiropractic advice is the best way to avoid pain when working outdoors. Those who still do experience any pain or discomfort after following this advice may have an underlying problem that needs to be addressed. Joint restrictions within the body can make it more difficult to work in outside conditions. Visit The Joint Chiropractic to have an assessment and determine a course of treatment so work can be continued without problems.
