Lowering Blood Pressure and Pain With Chiropractic

By Brandi Goodman

High blood pressure is a serious problem that impacts the heart. Lowering it with exercise and diet is possible, yet many people don't try hard enough to do so. Pain is also a problem for many. Lower back pain is commonly felt due to incorrect posture and stress. Chiropractic care can ease both of these troubles.

Realigning the Atlas Vertebra

A proper chiropractic adjustment can realign the Atlas vertebra. This vertebra, located at the top of the spine, can put pressure on the brain stem when it is in a restricted position. Cardiac function, as well as the centers for other systems, such as respiratory and vasomotor, are located here. Removing the subluxation in this area restores function to many components of the body. This includes lowering both systolic and diastolic blood pressure counts.

Improving Blood Flow

Inhibited blood flow can also raise blood pressure. Chiropractic improves the circulatory system. Removing subluxations ensures the blood can flow through the body as necessary without anything blocking its path. With improved blood flow, pressure levels should return to normal or at least lower to a healthier level than they have been leading up to this.

Reducing Stress Levels

Chiropractic care does more than remove joint restrictions. It also helps to reduce stress levels. Patients tend to experience reduced stress after feeling relief during an adjustment. High stress levels can raise blood pressure. Therefore, reducing stress can lower blood pressure and help to return the body to its normally functioning state.

Eliminating Pain

Pinched nerves and restricted joints can cause severe pain and inflammation within the body. Seeing a chiropractor can help ensure these restrictions get removed so no more pain is felt in that area. Because levels of stress get reduced as well, the tension built up in the body from that can also be eliminated through chiropractic.

Speak With Your Chiropractor

It is important to speak with your chiropractor about all your needs. If you have high blood pressure, let the chiropractor know so he or she can plan their adjustment accordingly. Each patient will have their own personalized adjustment based on their specific needs and areas of the body where tension is felt.
