Chiropractors Offer 5 Tips for Pain Prevention
By Brandi Goodman
Pain is possible with nearly everything you do -- or don't do. Sit for long hours, and you're bound to feel discomfort. Stand too long in one position, and you'll also feel some aches. Chiropractors offer five tips for pain prevention that can help you avoid the aches that stem from joint stiffness and improper posture.
Keep All Screens at Eye Level
One of the biggest culprits of pain is too much screen time. So many people sit on their phones with their necks tilted downwards. Perhaps you work at a desk all day and your computer monitor is lower than your head, forcing you to look down at it. The television set can also sit either lower or higher than is comfortable for your neck. You need to be sure all screens are kept at eye level from where you're sitting so you can maintain a forward-facing position with your head upright and neck straight.
Stretch Often
Whether you're sitting for hours on end or standing for them, it's important to stretch often. You need to stretch out your joints and allow them to loosen up so they do not become stiff and sore. Take 30 seconds and do a few quick stretches to loosen up your body and keep your joints flexible. It will help prevent aches in those areas.
Change How You Sleep
Your sleeping position could be the reason for your chronic pain. You may need to change how you sleep so you can avoid tossing and turning all night or waking with some serious aches. It is best to sleep on your back with a pillow under your knees. Replacing your pillow and mattress at the recommended intervals is vital as one for good sleep.
Improve Your Core Strength
A weak core makes it difficult to maintain proper posture. You'll be more likely to experience back pain as well. Improve your core strength and see how well your posture improves and your pain diminishes. Planks, push-ups, and bridges are all helpful exercises for both your abdomen and back.
Exercise Every Day
Your core isn't the only body part that needs to see movement. You should be exercising every day if you hope to maintain your strength and keep your body ache-free. Perform both cardio exercises for a boost in health and strength training for better joint and muscle health.
Pain prevention is possible when you keep these tips in mind. It's important that you maintain your posture and keep your body strong and well so you can avoid unnecessary discomfort.
