Give Yourself the Gift of Sleep This Holiday Season
By Donna Kostiew
For many of us, the busiest season of the year begins right after Halloween. There are extra parties and celebrations to attend, extra shopping that needs to be taken care of, and extra cleaning and decorating around the house that needs to be accomplished before the extended family shows up. It is during this time that we tend to burn the candle at both ends and, in doing so, we often cut back on the most critical thing our body needs … rest and a good night’s sleep.
The Power of Sleep
Sleep is one of the most important aspects of a healthy lifestyle; it contributes so much to our overall health and wellness that without it, or with reduced amounts of it, our bodies will begin to break down. Sleep helps to:
- Reduce stress levels
- Heal damaged tissues
- Replace aging cells
- Recharge the body and brain
- Improve attention levels
- Boost energy
- Enhance moods
- Reduce pain levels
- Maintain weight
- Strengthen immune system
Sleep is a time for our bodies to recover from the day we just had so that we can be at our best again for the day we will face tomorrow. It’s critical to our health to get the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep each night. If you are having trouble with sleep, don’t push it off to deal with later. Deal with it now and see a chiropractor to get back on track with your rest.
The Power of Your Chiropractor
Your chiropractor can suggest ways to improve your sleep routine and will perform adjustments that assist your body in the recovery process. Chiropractic care can help you achieve complete rest and deep sleep by reducing any nerve interference that may be causing you disruptions during the night. Your body will also function better, which will leave you feeling healthier and more energized during this busy time of the year … and we could all use a little more energy during this holiday season, right?
So don’t get trapped into thinking that if you cut back on sleep, you will be able to get more done because that line of thinking is rarely accurate and by doing so, the opposite effect is often experienced instead. The best advice to give during this busy holiday season is to keep to your normal routine as much as possible, ask for help, delegate, and try to get the recommended hours of sleep per night. This is what will help you stay focused on that crazy to-do list that is in your hand and will help you face each day a little more healthier and happier.
