Receiving Chiropractic Care Before Traveling
By Brandi Swieter
Spring break is one of the most common times of year when people travel. College kids head off to vacay with their friends while families take this school break as an opportunity to go enjoy some much needed fun in the sun. Before heading out, it’s recommended to see a chiropractor, as a doctor can fix spinal restrictions and align the spine, improving overall health.
How Travel Affects the Body
Traveling can affect the body in a number of ways. Those sitting for long periods will quickly start to notice pain starting in their lower backs. While most people think about the stiffness and try to combat it by using a lumbar support pillow, many do not realize the seat can be a problem as well. A hollowed out seat can make people sink down in and throw off the natural curvature of their spine. It’s important to place a blanket or pillow underneath the buttocks as well to keep the body properly supported and aligned. This is true of plane seats, bus seats, and even your own car seats.
Luggage is another common problem. People tend to travel with large bags, either having to lift them overhead to place them in the compartment on the plane or lift them up and place them in the back of a vehicle. Any lifting of heavy objects like this can put strain on the back. Anyone flying should be sure to bag check any cargo heavier than than 10 percent of their body weight. Only bring small, easy-to-handle bags that are lightweight on the flight.
Why You Should See a Chiropractor
A chiropractor will help heal joint dysfunctions in the body. By getting the spine properly aligned, the immune system will work more efficiently. There won’t be anything blocking the path for nutrients to make it through the body to their necessary destinations. Alleviating pain and tension that is already there is ideal as well, as it leaves a person feeling refreshed and better able to handle the stresses that traveling can put on the mind and body.
Chiropractic care is always beneficial for the body, but especially so before and after traveling. Not only should people head to the chiropractor before their trip, but once they arrive home as well. Those who truly want to keep their bodies in optimal condition can also visit a chiropractor during their vacation as well. With more than 400 locations, The Joint Chiropractic can be visited in many locations throughout the U.S.
