When it comes to health fads, you have two groups of people. On one side, you have those who follow every new trend in hopes of finally finding that magic pill. On the opposite end, you have those who roll their eyes at the mere mention of any possible trend in health and wellness. So which side of the argument is the right side? In all honesty, it's probably a little bit of both. To help separate the good from the bad in the newest health trends, take a look at these three fads that may actually bring some good into your life.

Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal is one trend that may really be worth it. It’s not the charcoal that you buy for outdoor cooking … you’ll need the kind that’s made for consumption. And when you consume activated charcoal, you’ll need to drink plenty of water in order to enjoy the effects. So what are the benefits? Charcoal is thought to clean toxins from the digestive tract, reduce bloat, and improve basic digestion. But the benefits don’t end there. Using charcoal can also whiten teeth, protect the skin from aging, and remove poisons from the body. It’s a powerful substance that, when used correctly, can bring big benefits to the body both inside and out.

Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting has seen an increase in attention over the past few years. Though fasting isn’t a new concept, the schedule and specific purpose of intermittent fasting is a bit new to the game. This style of eating has you eating in a window of approximately eight hours, and then fasting for the other 16 hours of the day. Those who use this style of eating claim health benefits such as decreased hunger, better digestion, clear skin, and even weight loss. While some people shouldn’t attempt this style of eating -- such as those with certain medical conditions -- healthy individuals who are seeking a boost might benefit from giving it a try.

For far too many years, self-care has been seen as a selfish endeavor. But in the past few years, the importance of taking care of yourself has been on the rise. And that is really and truly a good thing! Massages, healthy eating, adequate rest, regular exercise, time with friends.
