Get Healthy at Home With These Hacks
By Sara Butler
Cooking meals at home is one of the best things you can do to help you get healthy, but many people find themselves sliding into a drive-thru on the way home or ordering out because they don't feel they can easily cook a meal at home. Well, there are a few hacks you can use to help you become a prolific home chef. Here are a few to help you get organized and start eating healthier at home.
Clean Your Clutter
If your kitchen counters are cluttered, then you may not feel as inspired to cook. Something as simple as cleaning off your kitchen counters can make it feel like you have more space to prep and cook, helping you to get going. Plus, all that dust that can build up on cluttered counters can accumulate dust and that's simply not good for you!
Add Color To You Refrigerator
The human eye is naturally drawn to vibrant color, so stock your fridge up with colorful fruits and vegetables in clear containers. These things will catch your eye when you open the refrigerator and you'll be more likely to reach for them. Plus, fruits and vegetables are nutrient-dense foods, so they're the best options to use in cooking or when you feel like a snack.
Portion Out Snacks
Portion control is crucial for many people when it comes to snacking. One smart strategy to employ is to pre-package your snacks into individual serving sizes so you can simply reach for them and go. You can satisfy your craving for a snack this way without going overboard.
Plan Your Pantry
Keep nutritious foods in your pantry that are easy to cook with and have a long shelf life. Beans, salmon, and tuna are a perfect example of foods you can store in your pantry that are easy to use to throw something together at the last minute.
Keep Junk Food Out of Sight
If you can't bear to simply throw out all your junk food, then at least store foods that aren't as good for you out of sight. The less visible they are, the less likely you'll be to reach for them when you're hungry. Keep them on higher shelves if you have to have a few around in your house.
Getting healthy also means getting organized. Have a plan and use these hacks to help!
