3 Easy Ways to Jumpstart Your Morning

By Stepy Kamei

There's no way around it -- sometimes, waking up is hard to do. It's easy to get caught in the cycle of pressing the snooze button multiple times before jumping out of bed at the very last second, rushing to get out the door. Sound familiar? You may not even have time to eat a proper breakfast, or feel awake enough to truly begin the day before you're already commuting to work. While it may seem like the last thing you're capable of doing, starting up a morning routine can be extremely helpful when it comes to improving your wakefulness and energy throughout the day. If you're having trouble getting started, there are a few quick and easy tricks you can start now to begin the process of building up a solid routine. Read on to learn more about three very simple ways you can boost your morning routine.

Be Mindful and Meditate

Ah, the morning has arrived. Time to wake up, get out of bed, and be still? Yes, practicing a mindfulness meditation right after waking up can be very beneficial to not only your morning routine, but also your overall health. In fact, a good meditation can be performed in just three minutes, which is perfect for people who are new to meditation (or who don't have a lot of time to spend in the mornings).

To start, you can stay seated on your bed, with your feet touching the floor. Simply close your eyes and follow these three steps: Inhale through your nose for five seconds; hold your breath for four seconds; exhale through your mouth for five seconds. Repeat this for just 2 to 3 minutes.

While it seems trivial, this can really help your mind focus and be still, therefore starting your day off on a much calmer and less frenzied manner.

Get Moving

Getting your blood pumping and muscles stretched out is a great and all-natural way to wake the body up. If you can fit in a run or workout session, that's great! However, if you're pressed for time, even just a short set of push-ups, jump squats, or lifting weights can be beneficial to getting the body going. At the very least, performing a few basic stretches can really help you wake up.

Eat Right

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day for a reason. Beginning your day with a good amount of protein, nutrients, and fiber can help you feel fortified and energized enough to really get going and be productive until lunch. Eggs, oatmeal, and whole wheat toast with nut butter or avocado spread are all great options for kick-starting your morning.
