It is Spring: Get Outside and Get Healthy
By Virginia Laird
If you are anything like me, the warm weather is beckoning you to get outside. Research suggests that one way to stay healthy is to get outdoors and be physically active. Health and wellness professionals advise that spending time outside can reduce stress and encourage exercise. A few activities which are recommended when trying to determine how to spend your outdoor adventures include:
- Go for a hike
- Play some golf (or at least try)
- Plan a camping trip for the whole family
Go for a Hike
Hiking can be a fun activity that offers a variety of healthy benefits. Hiking is exercise and therefore can help with weight management. It also allows participants to enjoy fresh air, which provides a boost to the immune system. Hiking also allows the body to soak up some much-needed Vitamin D from the sun.
Play Some Golf (or at Least Try)
Whether you are skilled at the game of golf or not has little to do with reaping the benefits which can accompany a trip around the course. Golf offers much to improve health and wellness. This sport is known for its positive effects on the cardio system. Walking the course can get the heart pumping and help manage weight. Another benefit of taking up golf is the number of hours spent outside. Research suggest that spending time outdoors can be great for mental health. With these healthy benefits in store, it may be time to dust off your clubs and plan your next trip to the course. If you can't afford clubs or green fees, there's always disc golf.
Plan a Camping Trip for the Whole Family
Health and wellness experts advise that camping can offer a plethora of benefits that may improve the overall health and wellness of those who choose to participate. While camping, there is a host of activities which provide exercise. This can help burn calories and energy. Research suggests being active while camping can help improve your ability to get a good night of sleep. Making sure to get plenty of sleep can help keep you well.
These activities, along with others, can provide you and your family the ability to enjoy the great outdoors while staying healthy. With only a few weeks left of spring, it is time to take advantage of the beautiful weather before the sweltering heat of summer puts a damper on your outdoor plans.
