Facing the Music May Be Helped by Listening
By Tom Herrin
Of all those worn out sayings people must hear, one of the more common ones is that they must face the music. This reference usually means that people must deal with the consequences of whatever they have done. It is most often the unavoidable results of bad decisions. When it comes to health, most people have a desire to maintain or improve it, but it may end right there. If it requires much extra effort, it may seem like too much. One of the easier things that may be done for health is listening to music, especially soft music. Jazz may be at the top of the list.
It May Improve Energy and Focus
Many people have experienced exercising to some kind of music. Certain beats can help people to perform at a higher level. A workout may seem less stressful physically when that beat is present. Listening to jazz may inspire and stimulate many creative juices. It is pretty commonly believed that those who listen to it are more likely to have some almost mystical experience.
It May Boost Immunity
Studies have shown that listening to jazz for 30 minutes can raise the levels of immunoglobulin A. This is found in the mucous linings of the body and helps to fight against some illnesses. The levels of this remain high for 30 minutes after people stop listening to the music. It is one of those strange and somewhat unexplainable things that make people stop and think maybe it is best not to ask.
It May Relieve Stress
Probably the best known use for soft music, especially jazz, is to relieve stress. The beat really can have a good effect on health. Listening to it for some time prior to bedtime has shown to improve sleep. It also may reduce depression. I enjoy listening myself. It always seems to provide a feeling of peace and tranquility. I use it to drown out other distractions. In studies, the longer the period of successful days that people listen to jazz, the greater the number of people who experience better sleep. You may be the kind who feels that this is just not for you. Let me say, it is well worth trying. It may improve your health in more ways than you can imagine. For your overall health, you may really want to face the music.
