There Is No Secret About Nature and Health

By Tom Herrin

It is pretty common to refer to someone's "secret" for how they manage their health, especially when the seem to enjoy health that may seem better than average.  Those so-called secrets may be nothing more than whatever their daily practices are.  Diet and exercise are always good things to incorporate for themselves.  They are not the only things that help to support health, however, as there are plenty of other directions available for people to go.  One of the easy ones is to spend more time outdoors.  Camping can be a lot of fun as well as a good way to improve health.

It May Help to Relieve Stress

Anyone who says they don't have to deal with any kind of stress is likely not facing reality.  It is certain that some experience much more than others, but everyone deals with some kind at times.  If nothing else, finances, jobs, and/or family responsibilities can be taxing.  A study from the University of Minnesota found that even viewing some natural scenery could help to relieve stress and make people feel overall more upbeat.  Camping may be a winner here.

It May Help Improve Memory

Lots of people suffer from some difficulties with memory.  For years, it was written off as something that happened as people got older, but there may be more to it than that.  There may also be some things that can be done to help it.  A study from the University of Michigan examined groups who were exposed to different types of visuals as they walked.  One group took walks through the city while the other did so through the arboretum.  The findings were that the group that walked through the nature setting had a 20 percent improvement in their short-term memory.

It May Help Build Family Relationships

No matter how hard we try, most of us could use some help in improving relationships, whether it be with family, friends, or co-workers.  Spending time camping together is a good way to develop some skills used in working with others.  Learning to depend on one another is a good way to create greater trust.  Our family always enjoys camping.  It always helps us build memories as well as get out and get more exercise.  It also helps provide a little more mental stimulus.  It is not one of those things that you have to spend a lot on, just have fun.
