Seeing the Light of Day May Be Best for Health
By Tom Herrin
Some of the old sayings everyone hears seem to stay with them. One of those references that seems to be talking about someone getting in some kind of trouble that may result in them being shut away from life in general is about them "never seeing the light of day" again. This is obviously a bad thing in respect to the way it is used. For people who work shifts, there may be times in which they feel that they have been shut out from everyone else and destined to spend most of their life in seclusion. Even though there are some good jobs that require working shifts, there are still some downsides to them. According to some studies, health may be affected in a negative manner.
General Health Problems May Be Greater Risks
For those who work shifts, some of the more common problems can show up at a higher rate. According to some studies, heart and circulatory problems seem to happen more. Another thing that is almost an epidemic in this country is diabetes. It seems to happen at a higher rate among shift workers. No doubt poor eating habits may play a part in this as so many of them rely on ready-to-eat foods that may be easily available.
Building a Protective Barrier Is Possible
For those who want to take preventative steps, it is possible. Much of it is the same kind of things that may be done for health in general. Eating good, high quality meals on a regular schedule is an important place to start. When people eat well, they are less likely to go after some of the bad foods that are around. Another thing that is critical for everything is to get some kind of regular exercise. Doing this can maintain better activity as well as keep the body functioning on a better level. Everyone needs exercise, but it is especially important when people work at odd times.
Work From a Master Schedule
When we have a lot of things going on, it can be a challenge to get them all in. When you include trying to balance between those who do things at more normal times and those who work at odd times, it can add to the problems. Making a master schedule to work from can help to include the things that are most important. Having good family times can keep them together. If everyone can still count on spending time together, they can all plan accordingly. Emotional health is just as important as physical health. If we work at it, we can make it all work.
