Take Your Workout to Water!
By Genevieve Cunningham
An intense workout can feel so good. The sweat and sore muscles make us feel like we really worked hard. Like we're getting closer to our goals. Like we're making progress. Of course, sticking with regular workouts can be hard -- especially when we're doing the same old workouts all the time. It's normal to want something new and fresh and challenging. But what? Luckily, in the hot spring and summer months, working out in water becomes a fun and effective option. If you're looking to change up your workout this season, take a look at why getting in the water is a great option.
Water Provides a Greater Challenge
Water might seem to make the workout easier at first. After all, it keeps some of the sweat away and cools you down. But it won't be long until you notice the incredible challenge that comes with water. When you perform exercise in the water, it creates natural resistance. It's harder to move your muscles and takes longer to perform a particular move. You don't have to use weights or even resistance bands to get the benefit of resistance. Just jump in a pool to workout hard while still having lots of fun.
Water Gives Variety
It's not fun to do the same old workout over and over again. It gets boring, and so, we lose the motivation to stick with it. But by adding water, you can add variety. You can add a little fun. You can add something that feels both hard and soothing all at the same time. If you tend to lose motivation due to boredom, consider finding a pool for a while and adding some water workouts into the mix.
Water Feels Good
Let's not forget one of the most obvious reasons to workout in the water: It feels good! Water cools us down, relaxes the muscles, and helps eliminate pain -- especially while we're in the thick of a workout. Why not choose a workout that feels good? If your goal is better health, but also to have fun and feel relaxed in the midst, jumping in a pool or a body of water is a good and healthy bet.
When it comes to working out and getting healthy, water can definitely be your friend. It can bring a new challenge while still soothing and relaxing the body. Find a pool, choose a few workouts, and give it a try. You may find that water is just what your workout has been missing, which may lead to you getting into the best shape of your life.
