3 Ways to Prioritize Health Every Day
By Genevieve Cunningham
Do you really prioritize your health? Most people think they're putting their health first, but they're actually ignoring some of their most basic needs. It can be hard to make health a priority -- especially when you feel OK most of the time. You can't see the areas where your health is suffering. Luckily, prioritizing your health can be easy, and it can be done on a daily basis. If you're ready to put your health first and feel your best starting now, take a look at these three tips for making health a top priority every day.
Pay Attention to What You Eat
You don't have to obsess over what you eat, but it's certainly important to pay attention. It's really easy to get into some bad habits. Maybe you start by having one extra soda, but pretty soon, you're not drinking anything else except for soda. Or maybe you have an extra helping of dessert, and pretty soon, you're having a calorie-ridden dessert every night. If you want good health, pay attention to these little details. If you're choosing a soda, ask yourself how much water you've had today. If you're having dessert today, maybe you should skip it tomorrow. Put your health first by simply paying attention and making good choices as much as you can.
Spend a Few Minutes Alone
Everyone needs alone time. We need time to unwind and de-stress. We need time to zone out without worrying about anything or anyone else. Alone time also gives us a chance to check in with ourselves. This time can be first thing in the morning, at lunch, or just before bed. It doesn't matter! Just choose a time that works for you, get a few minutes alone, and use that time to lower your stress and center yourself for better health overall.
Move Your Body More Than Once
Movement should be a lifestyle. It's not about how often you can hit the gym or how many classes you sign up for. It's about moving every day -- multiple times per day. Maybe you can walk to work or to the store or to lunch. Maybe you choose the stairs more than the elevators. Maybe you go for walks after dinner and take your family too. Movement can make your whole life and health better, but it has to be done regularly. Include it in your overall lifestyle, and you'll definitely be moving your health in the right direction.
If you don't prioritize your own health, who will? We have to put ourselves first once in a while. We have to focus on improving our health one day at a time. Use these tips to prioritize your health, and start feeling better than ever before you know it.
