Healthy Hacks to Get You Through the Work Day
By Genevieve Cunningham
Work can be a fulfilling part of your life. It's not just about the financial aspect, though that obviously plays a huge part; it's also about the personal satisfaction that work can bring into your life. It's about making a difference and fulfilling your purpose. But let's be real: Not everyone can work a job that satisfies this need. And when work is more necessity than fulfillment, it can be really hard to maintain your mental and physical well-being while you're on the clock. You're more consumed with just getting through the day, right? Luckily, staying healthy at work can be simple, no matter what kind of job you have. If you would like to improve your health and focus on wellness both on and off the clock, take a look at these healthy hacks to start using at work today.
Take Your Own Snacks
The work day is a long day. And when it comes to food, failing to plan is definitely planning to fail. Considering we're at work for about eight hours every day, it's normal to get hungry. But if you rely on snacks provided by the office - usually in the form of vending machines -- you're not doing yourself any favors. Instead, plan ahead and carry healthy snacks with you. You can put them in the office refrigerator or get a small mini fridge for your personal space. This allows you control over what and how much you consume throughout the day.
Move on Your Break
According to law, you're entitled to breaks throughout the day. And if you want to maintain your health, use those breaks to move your body. Try walking around the office building or to your car and back or even just down the hall. It can also help to really get in a deep stretch to loosen your muscles and work out any aches and pains. Our bodies were not meant to be so still all day every day. Move on your breaks and you'll definitely see and feel the benefits in your health.
Take Mental Breaks Too
It seems like when we get to work, we completely forget about our mental well-being. We have too much to worry about -- deadlines, projects, productivity. Mental health will have to wait, right? But maybe a better approach is to take moments throughout the day to regroup and protect your mental health. Take a few quick minutes to take deep breaths and stop thinking about work. Stop and meditate or pray. Take one whole minute to read something uplifting. These little moments won't significantly impact your productivity, but will make a huge difference in your work experience and overall mental health.
Work is part of life. In fact, it takes up a huge portion of daily life. That's why it's so important to protect your health and wellness while you're there. Use these little hacks to keep yourself healthy -- both mentally and physically -- while you're on the clock. With some planning and preventative measures, you can live your healthiest life at work and home alike.
