Self-Care Your Way Back to Great Health!
By Donna Stark
What do you think of when you hear the term "self-care"? Do you think of face masks? A calming bubble bath? Self-care can be anything you do to maintain a healthy mind and body. Whether it is a night in watching a new series on television or a day outside in the sun, the way you decide to self-care is up to you! Let's take a moment to look at a few other ways you can practice self-care and how they can impact your overall health and wellness.
Squeeze in an Exercise Session
Exercise is a great way to maintain healthy body weight and alleviate stress. By getting up and moving you can improve your blood flow, enhance your mood, and increase the release of your body's feel-good hormones. Exercise can also help increase productivity and focus which can help improve your self-confidence in all areas of your life. But the best thing about exercise is that you don't need to spend hours doing it. A quick 30-minute walk will often do the trick!
Make Time to Unwind
Relaxation is a way for both the mind and body to refresh. It has been shown that taking the time to calm down and relax improves brain function. Relaxation can also help reduce stress and anxiety by lowering your blood pressure and heart rate. In addition, unwinding can help restore some of the energy you have lost during the day and can improve your grumpy moods.
Prioritize Your Sleep
Napping is one form of self-care that shouldn't be overlooked as sleep is one of the most important pillars of life. So, when your brain feels like it's had enough or when your body is fighting you at every turn, take the time for yourself to rest. From your mental to your emotional to your physical health, the benefits that sleep has on your body are too numerous to count.
Cook Yourself Something New
Cooking can be one of the most relaxing, creative, and healthiest ways to pass the time and is the perfect way to show your body some true self-love. Try some new recipes and play around with different ingredients and flavors. Just be sure you are selecting nutrient-rich foods! Your body will thank you for it in the end.
Taking Care of Yourself
No matter how you do it, the benefits of taking some time out of your day to kick back are important so make it a point to treat yourself to some extra love today! You earned it!
