Measure the Healthiness of Meals by Color

By Tom Herrin

All things are not quite as simple as looking at the color to see if it is healthy or not, but most people have experienced some things that just don't look all that good due to the fact that they are really plain.  While making meals healthier may take some work, there is something to be said for making them more colorful.  In the process of this, more benefits for health in these meals will likely follow.  It really isn't all that difficult, people just need to develop a good eye for healthy foods.  That eye may only need to be one that is not color blind.

Green Can Be Peaceful and Healthy

For many years, moms have been telling their children they need to eat their greens.  The response may have been negative.  This may be due to the fact that kids rebelled against being told to do it, or it may be that the foods they were told to eat were too limited.  Green foods may help increase energy, help tissue to heal, aid in digestion and a few other things.  Some of the foods on the list are quite familiar while others may not have been a thought that crossed the minds of many.  Some of these are peas, broccoli, kiwi, green apples, and green grapes.  Of course, there are more.

Reds Can Make a Meal Look Dressed

There is something about red that can add a touch of class to anything.  Food is no different.  A meal that is finished off with something red can make it stand out.  These red foods have a lot to offer.  They are thought to be effective in helping to slow or prevent some cancers such as prostate and esophageal.  They may also lower the risk of diabetes and some heart disease.  A few of these foods are red peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, watermelon, and beets.  That is a good list, but there are more.

Be an Adventurer

You don't have to be any kind of expert to boost the healthiness of meals.  It may help, though, to have some creative juices.  See what looks good or artful on a plate.  Go for variety.  Create a work of art and make it into a meal.  It is likely to do more than you may be aware.  Color your meals, and let them be something special each and every time.  Include the entire family to get the most out of it.
