Self-Reflective Questions for Better Mental Health

By Genevieve Cunningham

Mental health is such an important part of our overall wellness. We often forget how much it matters. We forget that mental health affects quality of life. We put off care, and when we finally seek out care, our troubles have often progressed to an uncomfortable point. But we don't have to live our lives this way. We can take care of our mental well-being in small easy ways. If you need some help putting yourself and your mental health first, take a look at these self-reflective questions to ask yourself regularly for a quick self-check.

How Am I Feeling Now?

We're so busy in our daily lives, it's easy to neglect ourselves and ignore our feelings. But when we do this, we often bottle up emotions until they burst. Take a minute or two to answer the question honestly. Are you happy, satisfied, angry, depressed? If your emotions lean toward the negative side of the spectrum, take a few minutes to lift your spirits. Taking note of your emotions and altering your mood on purpose can have a significant effect.

What Kind of Stress Do I Feel?

Everyone experiences stress. It's a normal human experience. But if we allow the stress to overwhelm us, it can cause permanent mood changes. Evaluate your stress levels on a daily basis, and then use stress-relieving activities to feel better about your health and your life.

Am I Overwhelmed?

We're all going to be overwhelmed at one point or another. But when we are feeling overwhelmed, it's important to take a step back and relax. Feeling overwhelmed can lead to poor moods, emotional outbreaks, and even declines in physical health. Don't allow that feeling of being overwhelmed consume you, but instead find little ways to ease your stress.

Am I Getting Enough Sleep?

Sleep is crucial. It's important for physical health, but it's also important for mental wellness. A lack of sleep can make us irritable, short tempered, and prone to depression. If you're not getting the sleep you need, take the appropriate steps to get more. You may find that the simple step of getting more sleep is enough to completely overhaul both your physical and mental well-being.

It's absolutely possible and inexpensive to take care of your mental health. It doesn't have to always be a big ordeal. It can be easy! Use these questions as a guide. With some self love, a plan of action, and a little advice, you can get your mental health moving in the right direction and feel better than ever every day.
