Remember to Get Sunlight in Winter

Just because the night begins to come earlier does not mean it is time for us to roll up our lawn and put a way the sunshine for the year.  Many of us have a tendency to forget our need for the rays of the sun as we get into those longer nights.  What may seem most appealing is the thought of spending time watching television or reading a few of those books we have been putting aside.  The sun is just as important to our overall health, however, in the winter as it is in spring and summer.  If we want to enjoy the best possible health, we need to make sure we get enough sun.

The Sun Can Help Develop Immunities

Our resistance to disease plays a big part in our ability to remain healthy in times of stress.  Our bodies are resilient, but need help.  The Vitamin D that is produced by the sun can assist in building stronger bones.  It also helps with keeping away inflammation.  This vitamin is thought to fight against several kinds of cancers such as that of the colon, pancreas, lungs, and more.  Not only does the sun offer this vitamin, but it additionally seems to be able to activate T cells which are important in combating other diseases.

The Sun May Help Your Mood

While it may not sound like music, the sun can have an effect on mood for many.  As we get into the time of the year in which we have less sunlight, many of us have some legitimate struggles with depression.  The remedy for this depression is to have more natural light.  Those who have more severe cases of this can generally resolve their issues by letting in ore sunlight through the windows.  Even arranging for this to be available for part of the day may be enough to pick up the mood and help them to be more productive.

We Have the Power to Make a Difference

Since the sun is a purely natural thing, we can easily plan for improving our own health.  Making a way to open windows is a good start.  If that doesn't work for us, taking a brief walk in the sunshine each day should do the trick.  Even if it is a cloudy day, the sun that is available may be enough.  That sunlight, in whatever form, is a critical part of maintaining good health in those short days
