Healthy Habits for Warmer Weather
By Donna Stark
Thank goodness the warmer weather is finally here. Longer days of sunshine mean there is more time to do what you love. More time to let those sun's rays beam down on your face. More time to live the easy life, right? But do you know what else is easy, other than losing track of time while you are outside enjoying the beautiful days? Letting your healthy lifestyle become sidetracked. Hey, we all know that it happens to the best of us, and fortunately, there are some ways to avoid it.
Staying on the Healthy Path
Warmer weather always brings change, but you certainly don't want those changes to affect your overall health and wellness. It's important to stay focused on maintaining a healthy lifestyle no matter how many barbecues you hit, vacations you take, or lazy days on the porch swing you commit to. So how do you stay on track? I'm glad you asked. Take a look at some of the tricks.
- Walk more - Take advantage of the beautiful weather and extra sunshine by taking a walk whenever possible. Feeling cooped up in your office? Take some calls outside. Heading to the gym? If it's close enough, walk. Finding those extra minutes during the day when you can walk in place of driving will make a significant impact on your overall health and fitness.
- Offer to bring a dish - The invites will be pouring in if they haven't already started, so use this trick to help maintain your diet. Offer to bring a dish, or even the main course, and make it a healthy one! That way, you can control the ingredients and feel confident about what you are putting in your body.
- Improvise with exercise - There is nothing about your fitness routine that has to be routine, so if you can't make it to the gym one day, improvise and find something else to be active with. Grab your neighbors for a game of Wiffle ball in the street, get your family on their bikes and hit the trails, or grab your yoga mat and head to your backyard. It's completely up to you how you want to improvise, just stay active!
- Use your time wisely - It's great to be outside watching your kid's sports practice, but don't use that time to sit in the grass and get eaten alive by ants! Instead, walk, or even jog, a couple of laps around the field. Grab another parent and have fun!
The Easy Life
Don't let the easy life sidetrack your health and fitness goals. Use these simple tricks to combat those times when life isn't as healthy as you want it to be because no matter how easy it is to fall off the wagon, it's even easier to stay on for optimal wellness.
