Accomplish More by Waking up Earlier
By Donna Stark
They say the early bird catches the worm, but if that worm isn't worth leaving a warm, cozy bed in the morning, the chances of you rising with the sun are slim to none, aren't they? In fact, you haven't been catching any worms for quite a long time now, have you? Lately, your morning routine has consisted of hitting the snooze button over and over again, covering your head with the pillow, and then getting up at the very last minute possible. And although it may not be the best routine you have ever come up with, it does seem to work in the moment, right?
Rise With the Sun
As it turns out, those early birds may actually be onto something and you may actually be missing out. On what, you ask? Well, keep reading! Here are some excellent reasons why you should consider coming out from under that pillow a little bit earlier in the morning.
- Get your daily exercise out of the way - Sleeping late and rushing to work will never allow you time in the morning to get your workout done and you will be forced to squeeze it later in the day, possibly even during your precious family time. But by waking up early, you can already have it checked off your list before the rest of your family opens their eyes.
- Be more productive - A quiet morning can oftentimes be the most productive time of the day. It provides the opportunity to check emails, create a to-do list, set daily goals, get a jump on housework, pack lunches, and prep for the evening meal.
- Cook a healthy breakfast - If you wake up early enough, you may actually have time for a healthy breakfast! Whether you are cooking for yourself or cooking for an army, giving yourself that extra time in the morning is a great way to fill your body with nutrition and your day with energy. It's definitely better than that cup of coffee from the vending machine at work.
- Start your day with "me" time - If you have kids, coworkers, or a boss, you know that there is very little "me" time during the day, so take it when you can and get out of bed sooner than you do now! Just imagine ... some peace and quiet, a great cup of coffee, your thoughts (and only your thoughts) ... why, it sounds like a dream come true, doesn't it?
Positive Effects
Going to bed and waking up earlier can have a positive effect on both your physical and emotional health, so why don't you at least give it a try? You may be surprised by how much you really like it and by how much extra time there seems to be in the day!
