Kick Your Bad Eating Habits to the Curb
By Sara Butler
A lot of people fall into patterns that aren’t healthy, but unhealthy eating habits are among some of easiest habits you can change to have a positive impact on your health. Here are some simple solutions to breaking your bad eating habits in order to help you get healthy!
Breakfast – To Do or Not To Do?
Starting off your morning with a healthy breakfast is always going to be a good choice. It provides your body with fuel to get you through the morning. The energy from a healthy breakfast can help you to stay focused and keep you active as the day wears on. It will also help you not to overeat at lunch or reach for unhealthy snacks from the vending machine at work when you’re so hungry you can’t help yourself.
You will benefit most from a balanced breakfast that includes whole grains, lean protein, as well as fruits and vegetables. The fruits and vegetables can be fresh or frozen – they both have great nutritional benefits.
Some examples of a healthy breakfast include:
- Oatmeal with milk, almonds, and berries
- Crust-less vegetable quiche
- A slice of whole grain toast with cheese
Slow Down on the Caffeine
This one may go against every coffee-loving cell in your body, but too much caffeine is unhealthy for you. If you have too much it can interfere with your sleep, zap your energy later in the day and also make you jittery. You should limit your coffee intake to three cups a day. You also want to watch what you add to your coffee since they can become calorie-laden sugar bombs quite easily!
If you need to wean off coffee, try switching to tea or half decaf, drink lots of water and eat small meals frequently to keep your energy up.
Pack Your Lunch
If you go out to eat every day during the week on your lunch break, you risk making some unhealthy choices. The best way to remedy that is to take your own lunch to work. You can make it quite easy for yourself by buying all the food you need over the weekend and then packaging up an entire week’s worth at once. Steam some rice, chop up some vegetables and bake some chicken to take with you for the whole week. It’s easy and good for you!
Changing your eating habits won’t happen overnight, but you can take small steps that get you closer to a healthy lifestyle!
