Five Simple Fixes for a Healthier Summer
By Sandy Schroeder
Before summer gets away from you and slides into fall, take the time now to pull it together with some simple fixes to feel better and be better.
Start With Chiropractic
If you have not tried chiropractic yet, treat yourself to a wellness visit at your local chiropractor and find out why everyone is doing it.
The Joint Chiropractic clinic in your community is really a wellness center staffed with licensed chiropractors who help individuals get healthy and stay healthy.
Focusing on spinal health, your chiropractor can show you how it plays out in overall health. Stiff, sore necks, knees, backs or other joints all find drug-free answers here. Headaches, muscle pain, and arthritic joints all get attention too.
When you come in, your chiropractor will assess your health and work with you to achieve your long-term goals. A gentle targeted spinal adjustment may ease aches and pains and spark fresh energy, provide better sleep, and trigger mental clarity.
Weekly 15-minute spinal adjustments may be the way to hang onto the benefits. They may also serve as a platform for more healthy fixes that will last all summer.
Make sleep a priority - If you are getting less than seven hours of sleep per night, you need to rethink things. Make your bedroom a sleep retreat and go to sleep at the same time every night. Use blackout drapes to eliminate light and air filters to screen out noise. Skip spicy dinners, alcohol and screen time right before bed. Make sure your mattress and pillows are comfortable and develop a sleep ritual with a warm bath, soft music or a good book. When you start getting more sleep everything else will feel better too.
Learn to let everything go - Take five minutes every day to meditate to ease pain, lower blood pressure and reduce anxiety. Find a comfortable quiet spot and focus on your breath as you let your thoughts flow. Gradually you will find it easier to slip into the meditation, and later you may find everything is a little easier.
Make daily exercise a must - Add 10-minute walks, runs or stretches to your morning, afternoon and evening. Get your bike out on the weekends and look for new exercise outlets like wilderness hikes or camp outs.
Reach out to your friends and family - Make the time to stay connected to those around you. Spend less time online and more time out there with movies, lunch, or dinner. On weekends make time to help others in your neighborhood and your community.
If these simple fixes work for you, hang onto them and look for more.
