Take a Mental Health Day to Ease Stress
By Brandi Goodman
Mental health struggles are tough to face. When you're facing task after task at work or school, it can be incredibly overwhelming already. Stress may build up more quickly when you're already struggling. In order to ease your stress and get your mind right, it may be wise to take a mental health day. There are various ways you can do just that.
Spend the Day Cooking Healthy Meals
Cooking offers stress relief for some people. If this is you, then spend your day cooking up some healthy meals for you to enjoy. You may not have enough time throughout the week to cook the way you want. Vending machine snacks and breakroom coffee aren't great for your mental state. Enjoy your day off whipping up some delicious foods that you can sit down and enjoy peacefully.
Add in Exercise
Even if you want to spend your day relaxing at home, you should add in exercise at some point. It can help to release endorphins that help your mind and body feel good. Find any way to add in exercise -- whether it means taking a walk around the block, dancing to your favorite tunes, or following along to some workout videos.
Soak in the Tub
Stress can cause a lot of tension in your body. Spend a while soaking in the tub. It can help to ease some of that tension you're feeling and help you relax your mind. Don't just use warm water, either. Add in some bath salts or light a scented candle nearby so you can really enjoy the relaxation.
Catch Up on Sleep
If you're feeling incredibly tired and overwhelmed, you may want to take the day to catch up on sleep. Even a short nap can do a lot of good for your mind. It can give you the boost you need to feel better and feel prepared to take on the tasks you need to accomplish.
Set Up a Happy Space
Having a happy space to go to when you're feeling down can help lift your spirits. If you don't yet have one, take the day to get one set up. You should add photos of your family or friends. Pin up inspiration quotes. Include a creative outlet for you to enjoy, such as a notebook for writing or paper and colored pencils for drawing. You can knit, paint, read, or practice music. Whatever helps calm you and help you feel less stressed should be included in this area. Make it all your own.
Take a mental health day when you need to recharge, de-stress, and get your mind back on track. You won't be productive at work or school if you aren't taking care of your mind and getting the rest and relaxation you need.
