You're Never Too Old For Some Things
By Tom Herrin
When you were young, you were often told to drink your milk. All schools serve milk with meals, and that is what your mom usually gave you with an afternoon snack. As you got older, you graduated to those more "adult" things like coffee, tea, sodas ... you know, the kind of stuff that had little nutritional value. Almost every restaurant serves those things as part of the regular beverage menu. There is a chance that you practically forgot about milk, or you thought of it as a kid’s drink. However, more and more people are thinking of milk as a major part of a healthy diet.
But A Growing Body Is Not My Issue
That’s true. Growth is no longer a concern after you reach adulthood. Improved health may be one of your prime concerns. Osteoporosis is a common condition that results from insufficient calcium and can be avoided with more calcium in the diet. And if you have found pleasure in working out, as so many people have, milk is a great high protein food. Many fitness experts recommend drinking milk after a workout to replace fluids and nutrients lost during your exercise routine. The amount of protein in milk will vary from around 8 mg to, in some cases, as much as 13 mg. That is a lot of protein. It not only builds muscle, but it also keeps you feeling satisfied longer.
Some People Have Lost A Taste For Milk
You may no longer think you like the taste of milk but you don’t have to drink it plain. As I said earlier, you really are never too old for some things. There are plenty of flavors you can add to milk. The old standbys are chocolate and strawberry. And, if you are concerned about your fat intake, you can get milk with little or no fat. As I have increased my milk consumption, I have gone to skim. I drink a glass with at least one meal per day, almost always chocolate. I also drink it after a workout. In total, I drink about three or four glasses daily.
Right Now, Working Out Is Not An Issue
There are several things milk will do for most people. Several studies have found that milk can help in weight loss. This may be because you feel fuller and have fewer cravings for other things. You can be certain that milk will provide more of what you need for breakfast than a pastry. Another benefit is that a glass of warm milk can be relaxing and work as a stress reliever. So, if you are looking for a healthier lifestyle, consider milk again. Sit back and have a glass, and don’t forget the chocolate.
