Dressing for a Workout Is a Big Part of Success

By Tom Herrin

Most people are well aware that they have to dress for success when they pursue a job.  The same can be said when they want to make a good first impression in any social situation.  Many people experience the feeling that may be had as they dress to accomplish just about anything.  Dressing for a workout can be just as important.  If people want to be successful in an exercise program, they really need to know what will work under different conditions.  Continuing to be involved in a successful workout will be largely dependent on avoiding discouragement.

Warm Weather Clothes Should Keep Cool

In times past, workout clothes were usually cotton, which would become saturated with perspiration.  Working out while wearing wet, heavy clothes was never really pleasant.  Modern fabrics that wick away moisture are able to remain lightweight.  People can remain cooler as the fabric dries, increasing the cooling rate.  Movement is much less restricted than it was at one time, and people may feel greater motivation to continue such a workout.

Cooler Weather Is Manageable

People can start with the same lightweight material when they exercise in cooler temperatures.  They can then add insulating layers a little at a time until they have sufficient layers to make them adequately warm.  Once they begin to heat up, they can remove layers as needed until they achieve a comfortable temperature.  When they have greater comfort, they are much more likely to feel motivated to continue to strive to accomplish their goals.  Motivation is always necessary to maintain any kind of momentum.

Wind or Rain Can Be Obstacles

When people work out in inclement weather, there must be some limits.  Heavy rain or lightning can be life-threatening.  It is never wise to work out in those kinds of conditions.  LIght rain is a much different situation.  There is plenty of water-resistant clothing available that is still lightweight enough to allow people to move well.   Wind is another factor that has to be considered.  Strong wind can almost stop people in their tracks if they are jogging or riding a bicycle.  Many kinds of clothes have a sail effect in strong wind.  Cold wind poses a very different problem.  When the wind is cold, it can seem to pierce through everything like a knife.  This can make a workout very unpleasant.  Materials that break the wind can block the penetration and allow people to retain body heat.  If you want to have success in a workout, plan for proper dress.  It can provide greater success.
