Why Six Meals a Day is the Way to Go
By Genevieve Cunningham
A long, long time ago, eating three big meals a day was the absolute norm. While it’s still pretty normal to rely on three basic meals, more knowledge has come to light, and many people are now advised to eat six small meals instead. But why? Wouldn’t that require us to eat more food, thus leading to even heavier bodies? Absolutely not! Take a look at why eating six meals a day may be better for your health in the long run.
Six Meals Keeps You Feeling Full
One of the reasons that so many of us are heavier than ever is because of convenient snacking. We might eat our meal, but before the next meal time rolls around, we’re scouring through the cabinet or vending machines for something to satisfy our hunger. Eating six meals helps to stop this problem. The idea is that you eat six small meals made of quality fresh foods. Each meal will probably be smaller than what you’re used to, but in just a couple of hours, you’ll be having another. You won’t have time for snacking or binging because you’ll be full and satisfied far more often throughout the day.
It Helps Keep Your Metabolism Moving
Another great reason to keep giving your body nutritional foods all day long is because it helps to keep your metabolism moving. But make no mistake: You can’t fill it with chips, cake, and cookies. You’ll have to eat fresh fruits and veggies, nuts, lean proteins, and whole grains. This keeps digestion moving and your metabolism revved up. And the faster and more efficient your metabolism, the more weight you can lose and the healthier you can keep your body as a whole.
It Keeps Your Body Energized
Food is fuel; never forget that. If you eat the right foods, you can keep your body fueled for efficient function all day. Six small, quality meals helps provide your body with proper nutrients and vitamins to fuel your body toward better health. Your body will work better, you’ll feel better, and you’ll feel more satisfied in general.
Is it the end of the world if you can only eat three meals a day? Of course not, but you still have to fill every meal with quality and nutritional foods. But if you can manage to find the time and resources, eating six small meals may really pay off. With a simple change in diet, you may find your health in better condition than ever and your body moving in a direction you never thought possible.
