Never Rule Out Simple Games

By Tom  Herrin

In order for people to get the maximum benefit from any activity, they don’t have to put on sweats and beat the pavement.  There are plenty of useful games that can serve some really good purposes.  Many of those games are some of the same ones that people may have played as young children.  Not everything has to be high tech, and they sure don’t have to be electronic.  Some of the best games to play may be those that require limited equipment and little skill development to be able to begin play.  Table tennis is one of those games that can be played at a variety of skill levels and still provide for a considerable amount of personal development.

It Can Improve Coordination And Reflexes

Anyone who has played, or even seen, table tennis is probably well aware that it can be a game with a relatively high speed ball that requires some polished responses to play.  The continued development of hand-eye coordination is good at any age.  For those who are older, it can be a great help in avoiding accidents and other common problems for older people.  Good reflexes can help in the daily challenges that anyone has.

It Is A Low Stress Activity

Especially as they get older, people often choose activities that are considered low stress or low impact.  These are easier on the joints while still providing an adequate amount of exercise.  This means they can still burn calories without overdoing it.  Playing table tennis can also improve  balance as people are required to constantly shift and change directions during the course of play.

The Social Opportunities Abound

Whether it is with classmates, friends, family, or whatever, playing table tennis can provide a great experience for a group setting.  The cost of equipment is minimal and most people are able to play with a small amount of training or practice.  In family settings, small children may be able to play with some level of success.  Even individuals with disabilities may be able to play with the right modifications.  If you are looking for a game that can provide some thinking as well as some physical activity, table tennis may be able to fill the bill for you.  Try it, and you may be pleasantly surprised at what it can do.
