Signs Your Metabolism Isn't Working Well
By Sara Butler
Your metabolism is very important to your overall health and wellness. It plays a big role in your body’s ability to turn the food you eat into energy to run every function of your body. Whether you love your metabolism or would like to have some stern words with it, it’s important to know when it’s working as it should or when it may be out of whack. Here are a few of the signs you need to look for that let you know your metabolism may not be working at its very best.
You’re Tired All the Time
There are a lot of things that can make you feel tired, such as not getting enough sleep or working out really hard at the gym. But if you feel tired all the time, then it could be a signal from your body that your metabolism is running a bit slower than it should. Your metabolism converts the food you eat into energy, and if it’s not doing it fast enough then your energy level can bottom out.
Dry Skin and Hair
A metabolism that isn’t working well can turn over cells in the body as quickly as it should to help maintain things such as your hair and skin. Dry skin and hair can be a sign of many other problems, including poor nutrition, but it may also reflect how your metabolism is working.
You Crave Carbohydrates
If you find yourself constantly craving sugar and other starchy foods, it may be because your body is craving food to be used as a pick-me-up. Especially if you’re sleeping enough and eating well, craving carbs may be a signal from your body that the metabolism isn’t working effectively.
You’re Cold – All the Time
One of the many functions of your metabolism is to help you generate heat. If it’s slow, then you might get cold easily. If you often find yourself layering up or throwing extra blankets on at night, your metabolism could be to blame.
You’re Moody
A slow metabolism doesn’t necessarily cause you to be grumpy, but if you’re tired and feeling run down, then grumpiness probably isn’t far behind.
Talk to a trusted medical professional if you’re worried your metabolism may not be working as well as it should. There are tests that can be done to check so any issues can be addressed and your body can get back to working at your best.
