3 Things That Cause Daily Stress
By Genevieve Cunningham
There’s nothing worse than too much stress. Though we all experience some stress in life, excessive stress can cause a serious decline in health. And it can make us feel crummy, too. But since stress is basically unavoidable, there’s nothing we can do about it, right? Luckily, the answer is no! There are things that we can do to lower stress … but we have to know the cause of the stress first. If you’re ready to get your stress under control, take a look at these three things that can cause daily stress, followed by some things you can do to get it under control.
Waking Up Late
Waking up late is a surefire way to feel stressed. When we have less time, we start our day in a panic. Racing heart, sweating, headaches. It’s awful! And while we may still occasionally sleep in, simply backing up our wake up time by a few minutes may completely eliminate this stress. Set your alarm for 30 minutes earlier, and actually get out of bed when the alarm goes off. You’ll probably be surprised at how much better your morning flows when you just get out of the bed.
Skipping Meals
When we skip meals, we are depriving our bodies of essential nutrients. And a nutritionally deficient body is more stressed. But that hungry feeling also stresses the mind and makes us feel grumpy. To avoid this feeling, stop skipping meals. Plan ahead, make time for eating, and keep your body well fed.
Saying Yes to Everything
While it’s good to be busy and involved, it’s not good to be so busy that we feel overwhelmed. And this often happens when we say yes to everything that’s offered. Want to run this meeting? Sure. Want to work late? If I need to. Want to join this volunteer organization? I will if you need the help. All of these answers aren’t exactly yes, but they still obligate our time and energy. If you need to, say no. Claim your own time. Protect yourself from becoming overextended. This one step can help rein in the stress and keep you healthier overall.
Stress happens. We can’t avoid it, and we can’t eliminate every ounce of stress from our lives. But we can learn to manage it. Use these tips to find the sources of stress in your life, and then get them under control. With a little planning and self-discipline, we can lower stress and feel healthier than ever in no time at all.
