Running Tips From Your Chiropractor
By Donna Stark
We've all had reasons to run during our lifetime. As a child, it might have been more fun to run than to walk. As a teen, you may have been required to run for a gym class or a team sport. And as an adult? Well, you have your reasons, don't you? But no matter what those reasons are, you need to keep one thing in mind. Your safety. And your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic can help you achieve that.
Running Tips Your Chiropractor Wants You to Know
Whether you run for the fun of it or you run because you like to eat, your local chiropractor wants you to maintain the highest level of safety while doing so. Here are a few tips on how to do that. Take a look.
- Wear appropriate footwear - If you are overwhelmed with all of the options offered, it may be wise to visit a store that specializes in running shoes. There, you can ask to have your gait and foot strike analyzed so that you can be confident in the pair you finally choose. Just make sure that the shoes provide plenty of support and enough traction for the terrain that you run on.
- Stretch before and after - Stretching before and after your runs is critical in reducing the risk of injuries, but don't restrict those stretches to only your legs! Believe it or not, running is a full-body workout, so give all of your muscles a fighting chance and stretch everything from your head to your toes.
- Know your surroundings - It's always a good idea to be familiar with the paths you choose for your runs, and I say paths because you should consider changing your routine every now and then just to be on the safe side. Also, if you run alone, always let somebody know where you are and when you expect to return.
- Get adjusted - Seeing your local chiropractor regularly can help keep you safe as well! Chiropractic care can reduce the risk of common injuries that many runners face, such as plantar fasciitis, hip bursitis, joint dysfunction, sprains, and strains. It can help runners build strength and improve their balance too! Chiropractic care can also reduce the length of time it takes for the healing and recovery process if an injury were to occur.
Run to Good Health
Are you ready? On your mark, get set, go ... to your local chiropractor, that is, so you can get your body in prime condition for your runs. And then don't forget to take the proper steps to minimize your chances of injury, because running to good health is the best reason to get those feet moving!
