3 Ways to Make Work Healthier Than Ever

By Genevieve Cunningham

Work. That one little word may make you exhausted and proud all at the same time. Work isn't the favorite activity of most people, but it's something that we have to do and we have to do well. Unfortunately, the need for work has turned into an obsession for many. We no longer work the usual 40 hours, we work and work and work just to get by. And all of these hours at work are taking their toll on our health. So what can we do? If we're going to have to spend a lot of time at work, we've got to learn how to make it a healthy experience. To create the healthiest working environment for your body and health, take a look at these tips to try now.

Go Home

It might seem a little counterproductive, but one of the best ways to make work healthier is to go home! Stop burning the midnight oil when you don't have to. Stop giving hours and hours of your time and energy to your job. It's true that you should be giving your best, but you shouldn't be giving it your whole life. If you want work to be a healthier place, stop spending so much time there.

Replace Coffee With Water

There's nothing wrong with a pick-me-up, especially first thing in the morning. But many tend to drink coffee all day long while they're on the clock. They feel that it helps them be more attentive and awake. But drinking coffee all day means you're not drinking water and that you're filling your body with endless caffeine. If you want better health, stop drinking coffee in the morning and drink water for the rest of the day.

Make Your Breaks Count

If you're not taking breaks at work, start today. Breaks are essential for both physical and mental well-being, and they're actually better for productivity, too. But while you're on break, make it count. Get in a stretch or a walk around the block. Do 10 minutes of yoga behind your desk. Burn calories, lower your stress, and calm your mind on your breaks. You might be surprised at the huge impact this has on your long-term well-being.

Work is a necessity, and most people willingly participate. But since we spend so much time there, it's essential that we make work as healthy as possible. Use these tips to improve your working environment, your body, and your overall health while on the clock, and you may experience a better quality of life from here on out.
