Sleepy Mornings: Get Moving With These Tips

Feeling sleepy first thing in the morning is a normal sensation. Most people wake up feeling groggy. We want more sleep. We have no desire to get up, get moving, and get to work. Unfortunately, mornings are necessary. They're the first part of our busy day, and if we start out on the wrong foot, it can send the rest of our day down a negative path. Luckily, you can start your day off in a good mood and with more energy than ever. How? Take a look at these tips to help you turn your mornings into one of the best parts of your day. 

Don't Snooze

It's so tempting to hit the snooze button when the alarm goes off. Just a few more minutes, right? But once you wake up, you're not going to get back into deep sleep -- which means you'll just be even more tired when you finally get up. Instead, get into the habit of getting up with your first alarm. Is it hard? Yes! Do you want to do it? No way! But eliminating those extra five or ten minutes can make a big difference in the way you feel and the amount of energy you have throughout the day. 

Get Some Slow Movement

It might seem impossible to move in the mornings. It's all you can do just to get up. But if you can get yourself moving in the morning -- even if the movement is very slow and gentle -- it can significantly improve your energy and overall health. Just start with gentle stretching. Then go for a slow walk. Do just enough to get your blood pumping and to relax the mind. While this habit will take some minor adjusting, the end results will be well worth your efforts. 

Set Routines

Routines help us stay healthy and relaxed. When we know what's going to happen next, we can relax into the routine and lower our overall stress. Try to set routines at bedtime as well as in the morning. A bedtime routine will help you get better sleep and a morning routine will help you wake up in a better mood. It will take time to find what works for you, but stick with it until your routines feel good for your health and soothing to the soul.

The mornings can be hard. They can feel exhausting and overwhelming. But you can change your mornings and make them feel healthy and energized. Use these tips to improve your mornings, and you'll feel healthier and more productive in no time at all.
