How to Protect the Skin for Summer
By Genevieve Cunningham
It’s summertime, which means skin health should be at the top of the priority list. With the sun’s rays in full force, major damage can be done if we’re not proactive about keeping the skin protected and healthy. While we know that this is important, too many people still skip the steps necessary for protection. As a reminder to all and a little help moving in the right direction, take a look at these tips for protecting your skin through the summer months and all year long.
Use Your Sunscreen
Doctors have been recommending sunscreen for years. Why? Because it blocks the harmful rays of the sun. Make the application of sunscreen a regular habit. Put it on first thing in the morning, and then reapply as the day goes on. This one step may go a long way in helping to prevent wrinkles, sunspots, and even the very scary symptom of skin cancer.
Prepare With Layers
Since the weather and even our plans can be unpredictable, it’s best to be prepared. Make sure that you always leave the house with layers. Or if you can’t remember, pack layers in your car and leave them there. This might include a hat, sunglasses, a lightweight shawl or jacket, and an umbrella. These items help to protect the skin and create shade on a particularly hot and sunny day.
Moisturize Again
Nothing beats moisturizer when it comes to the skin. Keeping the skin moist helps improve elasticity and prevent premature wrinkles. It also keeps it feeling soft and helps to clear acne and other blemishes. Find a moisturizer that you like and that works well for your skin, and use it every morning as well as all day long. You may even be able to find a moisturizer with sunscreen to knock out two birds with one stone. Just make sure to keep the skin moist for soft and supple skin for a lifetime.
You only get one chance to protect the skin. Once the damage is done, it’s incredibly difficult and sometimes impossible to repair. And some of the damage can be serious for your health as a whole. Keeping it healthy is about more than appearance ... it's about your ultimate well-being! Use these tips to protect your skin and keep the body healthier than ever this summer.
