3 Things to Avoid if You Want Better Health

By Genevieve Cunningham

Better health doesn't just happen. It takes work. It takes time and consistency. Unfortunately, many of us just aren't up for the challenge. We get so used to living our lives a certain way, it feels almost impossible to make significant changes. Maybe a better approach is to tackle just one problem at a time. We can take one step toward better health before we take another. So where do we begin? Let's start by avoiding obvious health killers! If you're serious about improving your health, take a look at these three things to avoid in your regular diet.

Energy Drinks

You're lacking energy and so you reach for an energy drink. Almost immediately, you have a little more pep in your step. But that pep happens at the expense of your health. Energy drinks load your body with both caffeine and sugar -- two ingredients that bring tons of harm and zero good. Regular consumption of these drinks can also lead to addiction, the depletion of natural energy reserves, and a heightened risk of stroke. If you want good health, just stay away.

Alcohol

Another beverage that brings more harm than good is none other than alcohol. While it's probably OK to enjoy an occasional drink, any excessive drinking can really harm your overall health. Alcohol can lead to liver and kidney dysfunction, dehydration, lack of focus, and dependence. Try to cut back on alcohol consumption and instead drink more water. It won't take long before you notice a positive change in your overall health and wellness.

Excessive Dairy

Milk does a body good, right? Sometimes. Milk can be beneficial for building strong bones and supplying the body with calcium and Vitamin D. But too much dairy can actually lead to inflammation in the body. This might manifest as abdominal discomfort or sinus pressure. If you love dairy, that's fine. But keep the consumption at a healthy level to avoid any potential problems.

If you want to be healthy, you have to act like it. You have to avoid things that obviously damage your health, and you have to include things that obviously improve your health. Start with these three choices, cutting back just one at a time. Better health doesn't just happen, but it can definitely be built with just a few steps in the right direction.
