3 Ideas for a Happier, Healthier Morning

Do you love mornings or hate them? When it comes to the early mornings, there seems to be an obvious divide. There are the early birds and the night owls -- and they rarely cross over into each other's territory. Unfortunately, even if you hate waking up early, it's often a fact of life. We have to do it in order to work and function in society. Luckily, there are ways to make it easier, and with some time and patience, you may even learn to enjoy it -- or at least not hate it so much. If you need a little help improving your mornings, take a look at these ideas that can move you in the right direction. 

Get Up First

If you want your mornings to feel better, it can help to get up before everyone else in your house. This allows you to get up on your terms. It allows you to have a little peace and quiet. It gives you a few minutes to yourself. And you might be shocked to see the huge difference this makes in your mornings. Having a few peaceful minutes in the morning keeps you calm and stress-free. It's not easy to do, but those few extra minutes can make or break your morning -- and the rest of your day too.

Give Yourself Time

Do you wake up and immediately start rushing around? If yes, it's time to stop. Allow yourself some time to fully wake up. Give yourself time and permission to sip your coffee before you check your email or text messages. Give yourself permission to wake up slowly and get ready for the day slowly. Don't rush from the alarm to getting dressed to making kid lunches to rushing to work. Slow and steady wins the race, and in the mornings, it also wins a better mood all day long.

Have a Morning Activity

Most people don't really spend any time on themselves in the morning. They're all business. They get up, get ready for work, get everyone else ready, and then off they go for the day. But what if we spend just a few minutes doing an activity that makes us feel good? Maybe a walk or reading a book or doing a crossword puzzle. This can ease you into the day in an enjoyable way. If you can get yourself up in time, consider doing a soothing morning activity to really start your day off on the right foot.
