3 Really Fun Ways to Improve Fitness

By Genevieve Cunningham

Who says that getting fit has to be serious or uncomfortable? The truth is that improving your health and body can actually be a lot of fun. The key is to know how to do it. Sure, you can check out your local gym and choose the most difficult and demanding class available. But this is unlikely to be enjoyable. A better approach may be to choose a class or workout program that is suited to your interests and personality. Even if it takes longer to get fit, you're more likely to be successful with something that's fun. If you need a little help finding some fun in your workout, take a look at these three ways to get fit and healthy and have a blast at the same time.

Video Games

Who doesn't love video games in today's world? For the most part, we think about video games in an unhealthy manner. We think about sitting in front of a screen for hours on end. And while there are plenty of people who take this approach, it's not the only way to play video games. There are also plenty of active video games that provide the player an opportunity to move! These are often sports related -- golf, bowling, dancing -- and they're a ton of fun! Get some friends together, plan an active video game night, and get in shape in a very modern, fun way.

Hula Hoops

If you'd rather take an old-school approach, grab a few hula hoops and have some fun. Hula hoops provide you with an opportunity to work your torso as well as your legs. You'll have to balance your body, move your hips and abdomen, all while keeping the hula hoop moving. This can be challenging -- probably more challenging than you remember. But stick with it if you want a very gentle, very fun, very kid-friendly way to get in better health.

Dance Party

Dance parties are always a hit! And here's the thing about having a dance party to get in shape: You don't have to invite anyone. If you want to, go ahead! Invite as many people as you want. But if you just want to turn the music up loud, create some space in your bedroom, and move your body, you'll still get some incredibly healthy benefits. If you're serious, feel free to find and participate in a class. But if you're just looking for a little fun, then find some music and get moving.

Getting in shape should be challenging. Our bodies change because of the challenge. But it doesn't have to be miserable. It should be fun! Use these tips to improve your health in a fun and exciting way, and enjoy the benefits that come with your new focus on health.
