Keeping a Healthy Diet: It's Easier Than You Think
By Genevieve Cunningham
Healthy eating is one of the most important and powerful things that you can do for your body. But unfortunately, it's also the one that we skip most often. We're surrounded by foods that are easy, fast, and lacking in nutritional value. But because they take so little time (and because our taste buds are used to these foods), we choose them far more often than the healthier options. But here's the thing about a healthy diet: It's not as hard as you think. If you're ready to take your diet up a notch, check out these really good (and easy!) ideas to keep in mind.
It's Not All or Nothing
Most of us are guilty of thinking in the all or nothing sense. We either eat healthy all the time, or we give up and eat whatever we want. But healthy eating does not work this way. A healthy diet includes mostly healthy foods with some room for indulgences. Afraid you can't make healthy choices all day long? Fine. Start with breakfast. It only takes one choice, one change at a time to turn your health around.
Water is Your Friend
Water. In the beginning, it can be as simple as drinking more water. Water hydrates the body. It flushes out waste, clears the skin, improves digestion, boosts energy, and helps us lose weight. It's so powerful! If you want something that's easy -- and generally extremely cost-effective -- just make water your choice of drink and watch the magic happen.
Get the Help You Need
You don't have to do it alone. So many times, we're guilty of trying to do it all alone. Ask your spouse to help you stay accountable. Ask a friend or a sibling to work out with you and then eat a healthy lunch together. Ask a trainer for advice. Ask your doctor to point you in the right direction. Healthy eating is a team effort. Create a team that keeps you motivated and supported, and you'll have a much higher chance of success.
Healthy eating can be as simple or as complicated as you make it. If you want it to be an easy transition, just use these tips to get started. You are what you eat. Choose good foods, nutritious foods, healthy foods. With a few small changes and a dedicated mind, you can change your health, body, and mind from here on out.
