Family Health Goals to Set in the New Year
By Genevieve Cunningham
We all set goals when the new year rolls around. We think about money and our health and our appearance. We imagine landing a new job or buying a new house. But what if this year we focus less on ourselves and more on our families as a whole? What if this year’s resolution deals with the health and happiness of everyone in our home? To do this, you might consider focusing on one of the most important parts of family life: Health! If you want to make your family’s health a priority this upcoming year, check out these tips to help you be successful.
Improve Your Diet by Cooking Meals at Home
One of the best ways to encourage family health is to cook and eat healthy family meals together. While it might seem like a lot of work, doing it all together can create lasting memories, bonding experiences, and teach everyone in your home about healthy choices. Even if this isn’t something you can accomplish every single day, do your best to incorporate it on a regular basis. Once or twice a week is a great starting point, and you can continue to build as you have the chance.
Exercise Together Regularly
If you want family, especially kids, to exercise you have to be the example. Why not do it together? Join a gym as a family and choose your own interests. Go to family night at the local swimming pool. Go for family walks after dinner or once a week. Choose a fun sport to play in the evenings when everyone is home. There are a ton of ways to boost the activity level of your family in a fun and long-lasting way.
Set Family Goals
While individual goals are also great, setting goals as a family allows for a new way to motivation. When you’re all working toward something, perhaps losing 10 pounds collectively or working out for 5 days straight, you’re all accountable for the end result. And when you’re accountable to other people, you’re much more likely to put your best foot forward.
Setting your entire family up for better health is an excellent goal. It teaches good habits for your children, reduces doctor visits, potentially saves money, and improves everyone’s overall wellness. Use these tips to set your family up for success for a lifetime of health and happiness.
