3 Great Exercises for Year-Round Better Health
By Genevieve Cunningham
Exercise should be a constant in your life. It's not something that you do every once in a while and expect to see big results. It's something you should be doing on a regular basis -- a part of your routine, a part of your life. For a lot of people, the struggle is finding the energy to partake in an activity that, let's be honest, you really don't enjoy. Running? No thanks! But the good news is that you don't have to hate your exercise routine in order for it to be effective. If you're ready to improve your health year-round, take a look at these three great exercises that can keep you moving in the right direction.
Swimming
We often think of swimming as a summer activity, but it can be done at any time of year. You might need an indoor pool, but these can be found at various gyms. The benefits of swimming are bigger than most people realize. It's actually a really hard exercise, but because you're in the water, it feels good. The muscles are challenged, but in a gentle way. Pain that may already be present in the body is diminished because of the buoyancy of the water. And of course it's taxing on the lungs and helps build stamina. If you like to swim and want a good workout that lasts, find a pool and start your routine.
Walking
Walking is so gentle and so effective. It's a great workout to keep you moving no matter your age or physical condition. All you'll need is a good pair of shoes and a trail -- whether that's at the park, in a gym, or around your block. Walking will help you keep the muscles in use, build stamina, burn calories -- and it just feels good! Make a plan to keep walking in your life, and you'll be making a plan to keep your body in better condition overall.
Yoga
Yoga is a friendly exercise. What does that mean? It means everyone can do it. There are really challenging forms of yoga, and then there are incredibly gentle forms of yoga. And no matter what form you're doing, there are modifications you can use to make it fit your needs. If you want to join a gym and find a class, go for it. But you can also find a good video on the internet if you'd rather exercise at home. Give it a try, experiment, and do what works for you. Over time, yoga can transform both body and mind for an improvement in your health as a whole.
Exercise is absolutely important. It's something that needs a place in your routine. Something that keeps you strong, fit, and happy. Use these exercises to build a stronger, healthier body, and keep it in your routine all year long -- and for the rest of your life!
