Things You Should Never Negotiate on for Your Health
By Sara Butler
Many people aim to live a life that’s healthy, but many times the stresses of everyday lives can cancel out your good intentions! It’s not unusual when things get busy and you get stressed out to go with something for the sake of convenience that will ultimately mean bad things for your health. First of all, remember that no one is perfect. But there are certain things that need to stick in your mind as non-negotiables when it comes to your health.
Sleep
This may seem shocking, but people simply don’t get enough sleep to function and feel their best. Sleep plays an important role in physical health, mental health, and even your safety, so getting enough of it always needs to be a priority.
You should strive to get good quality sleep each and every night. Don’t think you can skimp during the week and play catchup on the weekend, either, because sleep deficits are difficult to dig out of. Instead, try to go to bed at about the same time each night and wake up at about the same time each morning. Make your bedroom cool and dark to facilitate a better quality of sleep too.
Eat Real Food
In a sense, all food is real -- but not all food is nourishing! The old adage of treating your body like a temple still rings true because, while it may be easy to drop by the drive-thru on your way home from work after a long day, it’s not good for you to do so all the time.
Instead, strive to feed your body nutrient-rich foods. This can be made easier by meal planning and prepping, done at the beginning of each week. That way, you come home to dinner that’s already prepped and ready to go.
Get Your Body Moving
Movement is very important, even more so in an increasingly sedentary world. You should make sure you exercise, but you should also make sure to get up during the day and move your body – at least once per hour. When you can, take the stairs. Park far away when you go to the store or the office so you have to walk just a little bit farther. There are ways to incorporate movement into your day and you should do it!
When it comes to your health, don’t sell yourself short!
