Are You Eating Too Much Sugar?
By Sara Butler
Sugar is not good for you. In fact, your body doesn't need added sugar to work optimally, it gets enough natural sugars through the fruits and vegetables you eat to be healthy. Though, many people continue to eat goods high in added sugar even when they know better. Hey, everyone deserves a treat once in a while, but it's important to know when you're going overboard. Here are some signs that you may be eating too much sugar.
You're Tired All the Time
Feeling fatigued may contribute to eating too much sugar, which puts in a vicious cycle of fatigue and sugar highs that can leave you feeling lousy. That's because when you're tired, your reach for a pick-me-up in the form of a soda or a piece of candy. This sets in motion a blood sugar roller coaster that can be difficult to get off. When you're feeling tired, drink water instead and try to cut the mid-afternoon sugary snack out.
You Have Skin Problems
Sugar can do a number on your skin. It can cause imbalances in your skin that result in dry skin or acne. Remember, your skin is often a mirror for what's going on inside your body as a whole. So if your insides are experiencing inflammation, then sugar can make the whole thing worse. Think about your sugar intake if you have a pesky skin condition that doesn't seem to go away.
You're Sick All the Time
Sugar has a way of keeping your immune system from functioning optimally, which impairs your body's ability to fight off invaders and keep illness at bay. If you feel as if you're always on the verge of coming down with something, then it may be because you're eating too much sugar!
You're Anxious or Depressed
Many people don't often make connections between their emotions and their diet, but there is a link! Sugar is a huge contributor to mood disorders such as anxiety and depression. The havoc wreaked by sugar on your blood sugar can often throw you into an emotional funk that won't ever truly be resolved until you curb the added sugar in your diet.
You Can't Maintain a Healthy Weight
Probably one of the biggest problems with sugar is the number of empty calories it contains. Too much sugar in the diet is associated with higher body weight -- and an unhealthy weight can have an impact on your overall health and wellness for life.
