How Did This Happen to You?

By Sara Butler

Many chiropractic patients have no idea why their aches, pains, and discomforts are happening to them. They show up at The Joint Chiropractic and are stumped as to why they’re having the problems they’re experiencing. The truth is, it may not be just one thing that happened to cause your problem, but several very small things together that added up over time to become something big. Here’s what might have happened to cause your issues and how your chiropractor can help you find relief.

Trauma

Not all traumas are obvious to you. Things such as car accidents or falls are easy to pinpoint as a trauma that causes spinal issues, but many patients can’t recall any one traumatic event that caused their problems. The truth is that you may have fallen, slipped, or even bent over wrong causing a muscle strain and it could take weeks for any symptoms to show up.

For you, it may have been many things that happened over time that caused joint restrictions or dysfunctions to occur that are now causing you pain and discomfort. Even doing something as simple as sitting too much can be traumatic for your spine, and if you aren’t receiving regular chiropractic care to help remove these issues as they arise, then you’re neglecting your spine.

Spinal Neglect

You may think neglect is a strong word to use here, but don’t get defensive. You’re not doing it on purpose! Chances are you probably didn’t know there were any injuries that occurred that needed attention from your chiropractor. There is a cumulative effect to injuries, and it makes sense that if you got injured and kept getting injured but didn’t realize it, that symptoms would eventually show up.

The average first-time chiropractic patient is 40 years old, according to the American Chiropractic Association. That’s 40 years of small traumas that have now led to big problems. These people were neglectful of their spinal health without even realizing it, but at least they are getting help now.

You can trust your chiropractor to pinpoint the underlying causes of your pain and discomfort and work to help you resolve them. It doesn’t matter what has led you to the chiropractor, as long as you made it in the end! Now you are being proactive about your spinal health and addressing issues before they cause symptoms, and that’s really the most important thing of all.
