Foods to Give You More Energy
By Sara Butler
It can be difficult to keep your energy levels up all day long. Most people reach for a cup of coffee to help them power through their mornings or afternoons, but there are better choices out there to help provide your body with the energy it needs. Here are a few foods you should reach for to help you get the boost of energy you may need.
Bananas
Bananas are one of the best foods out there for energy. They are full of carbohydrates, Vitamin B6, and potassium, all of which contribute to boosting your body's energy levels. Many athletes reach for bananas after a race or competition simply because they're such a great source to replenish energy stores, so you can't go wrong with choosing a banana for a boost either!
Fatty Fish
Fish such as tuna and salmon are also great choices for energy. They have the Vitamin B, fatty acids, and protein your body needs to overcome fatigue and feel energized. How do these fish help you overcome fatigue? Well, the omega-3 fatty acids in them help to fight inflammation, a common cause of fatigue. Plus, Vitamin B12 works to produce red blood cells and an optimal level of red blood cells makes sure that your cells are getting what they need to work at their very best.
Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes taste good and also happen to be a great source of energy if you're looking for a little boost. A medium sweet potato provides your body with fiber and complex carbohydrates that your body digests slowly, providing you with a sustained source of energy as you go through your day. As an added bonus, the manganese in sweet potatoes also helps your body to breakdown the other nutrients it needs to create energy, so it helps your body to work more efficiently.
Eggs
Eggs are another nearly perfect food that helps provide healthy energy for your body. The protein found in eggs won't cause a spike in your blood sugar, meaning that it helps to provide you with a sustained source of energy throughout the day that won't cause you to crash. The amino acids in eggs also help your body to produce energy naturally. You simply can't go wrong with eggs in your day!
You are what you eat. So, if you want energy, then you need to eat for it!
