Never Fear Small Changes in Diet

By Tom Herrin

A good diet is something that should probably be about constant reading and adjusting.  Observing the effects of our current diet and making changes that can have an impact for quality improvement may be what all of us need.  While there are many foods that may be added to the diet with good prospects, adding leafy greens may be a way to achieve just what is desired.  The earlier they are introduced, the better chance that kids have to develop a taste.  When they do this, it may be something that can be a lifelong practice.

They May Help With Cholesterol

Years ago, worries about cholesterol seemed almost unheard of.  That is exactly what they were.  Most people had not heard of it because it was not a popular topic.  In more recent years, there has been much more publicity about it.  For those who rely on fast foods, they are leaving themselves open for lots of bad fats.  Whether it is poor quality meat or poor quality oils for preparing food, either of these can contribute to higher bad cholesterol.  Eating more leafy greens can provide nutrients that may help to remove things that can cause blockages in blood vessels.

They May Help Care for the Skin

The skincare industry is big money.  Without a doubt, some of it is very useful and is well worth the money that is spent on products.  Adding leafy greens to the diet may help to supply nutrients that can keep skin healthy.  Since so many of greens have a high water content, they may be able to provide moisture to the skin that may help in preventing wrinkles, lines, and loose skin.

They May Contain Antioxidants

We have all heard a lot of talk about the benefits of antioxidants.  They may fight against free radicals that can do damage to the body.  When we include them in meals, we are building ourselves a potential shield against these problems.  I enjoy having leafy greens in salads.  I can eat a big salad and go right back out and be active without ever feeling restricted by a heavy meal.  I have more energy, and leafy greens seem to keep me feeling satisfied.  They are particularly good in warm temps.  When the temperatures are cooler, they are good cooked as well.
