"Growing" Healthy Kids
By Donna Stark
We take very specific actions when we plant our gardens, don't we? We select the best seeds, we fertilize the soil, and we make sure that what we are growing gets plenty of water and sunshine. If we didn't take these steps, and instead let the seeds grow on their own, the end result could be very different from what we hope for. The same can be said about our children. We need to take very specific actions from the moment they are born in order for them to "grow" as healthy as they can be.
Growing Healthy Kids
OK, we aren't really "growing" kids, but you get the point. We want our children to grow as healthy as possible, don't we? But with all the advice given to us by friends, family, and Google, the growing process can often end up being very confusing. So let's just start with the basics because sometimes, that's all you need. Take a look at the following tips.
Healthy Diet
Skip the fast food disasters and the processed foods by going all-natural! Fill your child's diet with low-fat dairy items, lean proteins, fish, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and heart-healthy fats. And leave the sugary drinks on the grocery store shelf! Establish the habit of drinking water at every meal and throughout the day.
Quality Sleep
Different ages require different amounts of sleep, so tune in to what your child's specific needs are. Too little sleep can affect mood, concentration, energy, and overall health. And if poor sleep is chronic, it may even result in depression. It's vitally important to establish good sleeping habits and a regular bedtime routine when your child is young.
Daily Exercise
Temptations from electronic devices and games surround and lure your children to the couch every single day, which is why it is so important to keep them busy with as much physically active as you can! In addition to maintaining a healthy body, daily exercise can also improve sleep, reduce stress, and support optimal brain health, so sign them up for a sport, have them walk the dog, or stay active as a family!
Chiropractic Care
Routine chiropractic care is a great option for improved health and overall wellness for your child. Its main focus is to support the function of the body's nervous system, and since the nervous system is responsible for every move your child makes, that's a pretty big deal. Chiropractic adjustments also help to improve posture, fight against illness, support quality sleep, and enhance athletic performance.
Watch Your Kids Bloom!
Establishing healthy habits when your children are young is important, especially if you want to see them bloom! So take the necessary steps now. The healthy lifestyle that you help them create today will carry through the rest of their lives.
