Signs Your Diet Isn't Healthy

By Sara Butler

Your body is a sophisticated machine. It's self-sustaining, efficient, and capable of processing large amounts of energy as it gets rid of waste and regulates its temperature. But if you're fueling this amazing machine with foods that aren't very healthy, then it's going to start to show.

Here are some signs that you may be fueling your body the right way and living a lifestyle that may be less than healthy.

Slow Healing

Do you notice that small scrapes and cuts take a long time to heal? Well, that may be a sign that your body isn't working as efficiently as it can -- and that may be because of your diet. Your body needs nutrients in order to ensure that it can heal effectively. If your diet isn't providing those nutrients, then recovery time can be impacted.

Brittle, Thin Hair

In order for your hair follicles to function optimally, they need nutrients. Lack of certain minerals in your diets such as zinc, iron, and Vitamin B can impact your body's ability to grow healthy hair. If you notice that your hair is brittle and breaks easily or it's starting to thin, then the first place to look for answers may be your diet.

Oral Health Issues

Do you notice that your gums are inflamed or bleeding? Do you have more cavities than you normally have? These can all be signs that your diet is having an impact on your health. You should limit how many sugary drinks you have and make sure to boost your Vitamin C intake for healthy gums by including plenty of foods such as leafy green vegetables, potatoes, tomatoes, and strawberries in your diet.

Your Skin is Aging

Everyone ages, you cannot stop the march of time across your skin! But if you notice that your skin looking a little dull, dry, and wrinkly, then it may be because you're not getting the proper nutrients in your diet.

Make sure to eat foods full of omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and Vitamin D. Luckily, if you eat enough fresh fruits and vegetables, then these nutrients will not be difficult to get -- and make sure you drink plenty of water too.

A proper diet is essential to your health and wellness. If you're not getting the nutrients you need, then your body will let you know. Pay attention to what it's telling you and take steps to fix it.
