Finishing the School Year Strong
By Donna Stark
It's right there. Do you see it? That light at the end of the tunnel? In just a few short weeks, another school year will be over, but for now, our calendars are filled with one school activity after the other. It is definitely hard to stay focused during these last few weeks, but it's especially hard for our children. Don't forget, that in addition to being involved with all of the extra activities, they also have to continue with their school work and take those dreaded end-of-year tests. It's important that they continue to stay committed to their studies and responsibilities, but what if you notice that their eyes are starting to glaze over? What can you do to help get them over that finish line?
Finishing Strong
This is quite possibly the most stressful time of the year and unfortunately, many children slowly start to lose focus as the end of the school year approaches. If you want to help your child stay sharp and productive through the very last day, take a look at the following tips.
- Diet - A nutritious diet is essential for optimal concentration and productivity, and the best way to start your child's day is with a healthy breakfast! Help your child avoid those sugary cereals, energy drinks, and fast-food options by offering healthier alternatives instead. Choose lean proteins, whole grains, and plenty of fruits and vegetables to jump-start their day!
- Sleep - Getting quality sleep every night is essential to the development of your child and is a vital component of successful days. Adequate sleep can help your young one manage their time and work, restore their focus and concentration, and reduce those mood swings and emotional outbursts during the day. It can also improve your child's immune system, so count on having less sick days toward the end of the year as well!
- Chiropractic Care - Increase the power of your child's brain by taking them in to see your local chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic regularly! Nerve interference and restrictions in the spine can impede the brain's ability to work at an optimal level and that can potentially reduce your child's attention span and ability to concentrate. Chiropractic adjustments are known to be safe and effective for children, so go ahead and give them a try!
Skipping Into Summer
Even though that light at the end of the tunnel is starting to peep through, there is still a lot of time left in the school year, so don't let your kids check out yet! Help them develop those healthy habits that will impact their days for the better and encourage their desire to end the year strong.
